Running School Disco

Running School Disco

Ever thought of going back to school? No, this isn’t another role reversal Hollywood comedy. It’s the new way for runners to overhaul their running technique and improve performance in a matter of weeks.

It’s kind of strange when you think about it.

In almost every aspect of life, we recognise that there are skills you need to learn. In any other sport, it goes without saying that you need to learn the right technique before you can hope to excel.

But when it comes to running, many of us stubbornly refuse to acknowledge that our favourite activity is a skill. Should we really be so surprised that so many runners get injured every year?

The reality is that many runners are sceptical at the prospect of learning how to run. At least at first.

The following running school account from Ciaran is pretty typical (read the full write-up here).

In Ciaran’s own words:

I began running school, by my own free admission, a cynic and a sceptic. I scoffed at the idea of learning anything in six weeks, let alone re-learning something I’ve been doing for nigh-on 20 years. Little over a month later, I am a fully-fledged convert. Not only is it possible to run better and run faster, it’s actually possible to learn how to do so in a short space of time.

For most runners, it’s not a question of re-learning their skill. For most of us, we didn’t even learn to run properly in the first place.

Are you ready to go back to school?
